The groundwork behind every computer lab
Take a peek inside our full planning approach.
How we choose schools
Specific schools are typically recommended to us by trusted partners we have chosen to serve, such as the Koseli Foundation in Nepal and the BVJSS organization in India.
How we confirm a school is the right fit
Before we commit, we talk directly with school principals and staff to understand how many students the computer lab will serve, which space on site would be most suitable for installation, and what internet access is already in place.
How equipment is purchased and installed
We then search for vendors close to each school, which keeps the equipment delivery process reliable and smooth. Our team exchanges and reviews quotes with our chosen vendors on specific computer configurations (processor model, memory, storage, etc.) and secures a fair price. Once the equipment arrives, our vendors manually set up the computers, and project leads from our partner organizations help get core software like Chrome and Google Workspace installed on each device.
How we ensure each school continues to thrive
UniVerse Education regularly checks in with teachers over Zoom about student progress. We also collect photos, videos, and student surveys to track engagement and academic growth over time. Where possible, our team is there in person. In Kathmandu, we spent about three weeks on site.
FAQ
Can I volunteer?
Yes! We are always looking for dedicated volunteers. Whether you are interested in running fundraisers, reaching out to new partner organizations, or even leading your own project abroad, there is a space for you here. You can also start a UniVerse chapter at your school. See all the ways to get involved.
Can I donate used computers?
UniVerse Education kindly prefers funds over used hardware, as shipping overseas is costly and equipment needs to be serviceable locally.
Either way, reach out. We're happy to talk through options.
What does a UniVerse chapter need to get started?
Starting a chapter is simple. You can either create a chapter at your school or a chapter in your city. UniVerse operates in project cycles. This means your chapter begins by identifying a target community and then raises funds toward one computer lab project at a time. Once the goal is met, we work together to purchase and install the computer lab, and your chapter can start a new project.
Reach out to us and we will walk you through the setup, share our fundraising ideas, and connect you with our team. Everything you need to be successful will be provided to you upon registration.
Where is your team based?
Our team is based in San Jose, California. We collaborate with organizations locally, domestically, and internationally.
Can my organization collaborate with UniVerse on a one-time event?
Yes, your own organization or nonprofit can host a one-time fundraiser or event with us. Reach out to UniVerse with your idea, and we'll connect to make it happen.
What happens if a computer breaks or gets damaged?
We only buy equipment from vendors that provide a guaranteed multi-year warranty. If any of the computers need maintenance, the school notifies us, and we immediately send over assistance, cost-free.
